A Seder for One: Celebrating Passover as a Single Woman Converting to Judaism

As I prepare to celebrate Passover, I am filled with many emotions. Excitement and anticipation to prepare my Seder meal, mixed with sadness and longing for the loved ones I will be separated from during this special time.

As I reflect on the significance of Passover, I am reminded of the importance of community and connection. Pesach is a time to come together with loved ones and share in the story of the Exodus from Egypt. It is a time to remember the struggles and hardships of the ancestors, and to celebrate their freedom and liberation.

As a single woman converting to Judaism, I will be celebrating this Passover alone, without my children. Currently separated due to circumstances beyond my control, the thought of not being able to share this special time with them is heartbreaking. Although I may be free my heart is still and will always remain with them.

So, I have decided to create a Seder for one. I will set the table with a beautiful table runner, candles, and a newly ordered Seder plate. I will prepare a delicious meal, complete with traditional treats such as charoset, matzah ball soup, and my favorite Kedem sparkling grape juice. I will recite the blessings and prayers, feeling a sense of connection to my Jewish faith and tradition.

As I sit down to my Seder, I will remember the sacrifices that the ancestors made, and the struggles that they faced. I will think about the importance of community and connection, and the role that Passover plays in bringing people together despite distance and time.

I will also take a moment to reflect on my own spiritual  journey. I will think about the challenges that I have faced this year, and the struggles that I have overcome to make it here to this Passover. I will remember the support and guidance of my rabbis and community during these times, and the sense of belonging that I have found.

As I conclude my Seder, I know will feel a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate this special Passover. I will know that I am not alone, even though I am physically separated from my loved ones. I will feel a sense of connection to them through my Jewish faith, spiritual tradition, and a sense of pride and accomplishment as I continue forward with my conversion journey.

If you are celebrating Passover alone, I want to encourage you to create your own Seder for One. Set the table, prepare a delicious meal, and recite the blessings and prayers for YOU. Remember the significance of Passover, and the importance of connection to the light. And most importantly, remember that you are not alone, and that you are part of a larger Jewish community that is celebrating with you during this special time globally.
